Wilding

Wilding is a comprehensive approach to restoring natural ecosystems by reintroducing native plants and animals, combined with skilled ecological management. This process enhances biodiversity, strengthens ecosystem function, and repairs the natural balance that has been lost through habitat degradation, invasive species, and human impact.

At Sharp Day, our wilding projects are delivered in close collaboration with the Odonata Foundation, bringing together conservation expertise, scientific research, and on-ground action. By restoring native vegetation and re-establishing key species, we create habitats where wildlife can thrive and natural processes can recover.

Wilding is a proven, science-led method of large-scale ecosystem restoration. It not only reduces the risk of extinction for threatened species but also builds climate-resilient landscapes that provide long-term benefits for both nature and communities. Through this work, we aim to leave a legacy of healthier, more diverse, and self-sustaining environments for generations to come.

SEASON – A Cornerstone Wilding Project

The South East Australia Sanctuaries Operation Network (SEASON) is a collaborative conservation initiative aimed at creating a connected network of threatened species sanctuaries across South East Australia. This strategic model brings together landholders, conservation experts, and communities to protect and restore some of Australia’s most vulnerable wildlife and ecosystems.

SEASON empowers landholders to become active partners in conservation. By engaging current and potential property owners, the program supports the establishment and long-term management of wildlife sanctuaries. Its distributed model reduces establishment and management costs by focusing on sustainable financial frameworks, diverse funding sources, and scalable solutions.

Through this approach, SEASON fosters geographic and genetic diversity, builds species resilience, and reduces bushfire risk. By operating at scale, the network delivers significant, measurable benefits for threatened wildlife, while allowing our partners to focus on strategy, training, and developing robust threatened species metapopulations.

Every decision on species management is guided by cutting-edge research from our Scientific Advisory Group, ensuring that SEASON’s work is rooted in evidence-based science and best-practice conservation.
